Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

“The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.” After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise.” (Joshua 10:8-9 NIV)

I tell my kids; “I love you” all the time. But once in a while, after I repeatedly tell them this, one child will answer back with a sigh; “I know you love me!” “How do you know?”; I ask. “Because you tell me all the time!”; comes the answer. It seems so ho-hum, an almost repeatedly boring encouragement. Now, God had already told Joshua repeatedly “not to be afraid” and “I have given them into your hand” and here he tells him once again, but Joshua doesn’t sigh. Instead, this word of encouragement spurs him into action! We expect kids to act immature at times because they are. But when grown-ups act this way it looks foolish. So when God repeatedly encourages you with his presence, love, and power, and reminds you time and time again that Jesus is your Saviour and Lord. Does this feel ho-hum? Do you roll your spiritual eyes once again and say; “I know!” Or does it spur you into action? Let it be the later for his glory!
