Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. (Numbers 9:22)

Remember putting up your 12 person tent and then having to pack it up again two days later? That was annoying, wasn’t it? All that work in the sweltering sun and then sweating some more again, for what? On top of that you didn’t even know where you were going next. The irony of it all – you used to be an expert brick maker and builder back in Egypt building palaces and pyramids for the Pharaohs! So where was God when you were sweating in the desert? Up there in his “perfectly controlled environment” called heaven? No, he wasn’t was he? He was right there with you in his own dusty tent – the tabernacle. And what was the point of all that moving around? It was to remind you that heaven is your true home. And why all the not knowing? To remind you that only God is your true provider. So now that you’re living in the promised land in your own palaces made out of bricks, let me ask you – would you be spiritually better off back in a tent somewhere only having God to trust in?
