Bulletin Announcements – 22 March 2015

  • Public profession of faith: If you have you become a Christian through repentance of your sins and trusting faith in the Lord Jesus, there will be an opportunity for you to publicly declare that faith by baptism or confirmation on the 24 May. A preparation group will commence meeting very soon. Please indicate your interest to Rev Ariel Kurilowicz.
  • Our church will be joining the other local churches for the annual Easter in Burwood Park outreach on Saturday March 28 (12:30-4:30pm). It will be a great opportunity to share the true meaning of Easter through this festive event. The team needs volunteers to help with running the BBQ, kids’ activities or the evangelistic stall. If you can spare an hour or two, please contact Louis Wong (chubby_chocho2@hotmail.com).
  • Kian Holik is endorsed as our Local Mission Representative of our church by a majority decision 97.5% in the EGM. Praise the Lord for the result of the EGM.

Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you…. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. (Leviticus 1:4, 9b NIV)

The book of Leviticus begins with a gross and gruesome sight! An animal slaughtered, its blood then splashed against the altar, and then it’s carcass cut up into pieces and burnt whole. Can you imagine the awful sounds, the bloody mess, the overpowering stench?! It certainly wasn’t for the faint of heart but that was the point after all – sin has serious consequences. Yet there is something else we learn here; “it will be accepted on your behalf…” This tells us it works! An animal substituted in the place of a person is received with approval by God. That certainly is good news and better still we learn; “It is… an aroma pleasing to the Lord.” Yes, the stench of that burning carcass is pleasing to God. Now, why is that? Its because the smell is a reminder that the relationship is restored. In the end, this gross and gruesome sacrifice reunites the sinner with the Sinless. Thousands of years later God sent the ultimate sacrifice to reunite sinners like you and me with himself once for all – Jesus.
