- Ladies Fellowship Evangelistic Event “Colouring Scripture”– Calling all women!!…Are you looking for a relaxed and informal way to invite your female friends to church? Have you noticed the amount of colouring books showing up in every shop corner? Please join us for a fun and creative afternoon of colouring and scrumptious food on Saturday, 25th June from 1pm-3:30pm. We will also be hearing from Lorien Atwood, illustrator of the popular book “Meditations: Beautiful Bible Verses for Colouring”. Location: WSCCC Upperhall. Tickets on sale today on the church lawn! - We praise God that our missionary, Kian Holik, who is in full-time ministry to international students at Macquarie University, has been ordained by one of his supporting churches, GKKI Indonesia, for gospel ministry to churches and God’s people around the world. May God continue to be glorified through Kian’s ministry.
- Bonnie & Rolf Lepelaar – After 20 years of serving in Cambodia, they will be finishing their service and coming back to Sydney for their final home assignment on July 2. During this transition period they will be resettling the family and setting up home again. This will be a huge change for the family so please pray that God will grant them good farewells and a smooth transition. A car has been offered for them to use for the month on their return. Thank you for praying and offering to help.
- WSCCC Missions Month Event – The Many Faces of Islam: Islam is no longer a distant foreign faith in Australia. Some of us have Muslim friends or people we know and work with. But what do they believe? Also, the media sends us very mixed messages. It’s full of stories about Muslim terrorism on one hand, and Islamophobia on the other. Some say that Islam is inherently violent, others that it is peaceful. So which of these is true? Rev. Dr. Richard Shumack will answer these questions and more; and ultimately show us how easy it is to talk to Muslims about Jesus. Be our guest at this major event which will include a lecture, a question time, and supper afterwards. Thursday 23rd June 7:30pm – 10:00pm in the Upper Hall.
Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:
“I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, the people of Israel.” (Romans 9:1-4a NIV)
A heart-wrenching cry for his own people. To wish to be cursed and cut off from Jesus for the sake of some else just shows the deep deep love he has for them. Like a Christian mum’s wish for the sake of her lost son. Or an older Christian brother’s wish for the sake of his younger brother who’s rejected Jesus. Or a Christian son’s wish for the sake of his dad who’s about to die and still won’t accept Christ. Even a constant Christian wife’s wish for her husband who refuses to know anything about Jesus. It means to love someone else more than yourself. Yet we know Jesus would never curse or cut off such a faithful Christian. Instead, he aches along with them. Paul’s great sorrow and unceasing anguish is like a Psalmist’s tears or a prophet’s lament. God wants us to express our godly emotions. It is right to do so to a Father God who listens and cares.
