Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.” (Luke 2:13-14 NIV)

The birth of Jesus was filled with the miraculous but here it is also full of the spectacular! God revealed his glory in the fields just outside of Bethlehem in a breath-taking way. It is here that the heavenly host burst out in praise with some very old but timely news. Old – because this news about being in a relationship (at peace) with God through His grace (favour) is from the beginning. This was always how one came into a relationship with God. But also timely – because a little baby lay in a manger just a few kilometres away that would not only show everyone how such a relationship worked but also make it possible for everyone to have it. Ultimately, it is only through this tiny human being that anyone can find God’s favour. Jesus, is the reason the angels give God the glory for ultimately he grew up to be a man who paid for your sins and mine thus making it possible for us to find God’s favour, and what glorious news indeed that is!
