Online service, 2nd Aug

We’re glad that you’ve joined us today! Please contact our Pastor, Chadd Hafer, if you have any prayer requests, questions or feedback from our online service (chaddhafercp10@gmail.com

Songs of worship

The words of To God Be the Glory were written by Fanny Crosby who, though blind from birth, clearly sees the greatness of God in his mighty acts of redemption through Jesus. Let’s join together in singing praises to God for the great things He has done!

As we continue to declare the holiness and greatness of our Lord Jesus, may singing the next song also express our desire to live lives that are pleasing to Him.

Announcements

1 & 2 Thessalonians series

Today we’ve reached the halfway mark of our 1 & 2 Thessalonians Series: Living for Christ’s return. Our pastor, Chadd Hafer, will be speaking from 1 Thessalonians 4:1 – 12 about Living holy lives that please God.

Church Development Project

We thank those who have given generously through offerings and interest-free loans, and are now in the position to commence the building works from September. It is by faith in God’s grace to us that we undertake this project, and our target completion date is April 2021. Please pray for God’s continued provision for the finances, the logistical planning by the contractors, and for wholehearted unity as a church as we seek to grow God’s church for the future through this project. If you are able to help with storage of church items until April, please let one of the deacons know in the next two weeks.

Other announcements

Be encouraged to read this week’s service bulletin for more announcements. Also, from this week, you will be able to find the bulletin as an attachment to your CP10 online service email.

Congregational prayer

Prayer is a wonderful gift, allowing us to freely speak with God. Here are today’s prayer points.

  • pray that God will help us all to live pure lives that are set apart to worship and serve God.

This week, we will commit to God some prayer points for the Lim family in Japan:

  • Matt’s Japanese language test on 27 Jul, which he needs to pass in order to progress into the next class. Please pray that he was sufficiently prepared to pass.
  • Obi is in hospital (28 Jul – 4 Aug) for tonsillectomy and grommets to be reinserted. Pray that the procedure will go smoothly. Give thanks that a room has been made available to Jen for her to stay with Obi. Give thanks also for their Japanese church family’s help in minding Theo during this time.
  • Matt has been working through anxiety and stress management issues. Pray that the online course material will help him to process these feelings and trauma. Pray for spiritual, mental and physical healing.
  • Pray for rest and refreshment under God’s word – They are looking forward to attending a part of a Christian conference in Karuizawa (mountain retreat approx. 2 hours by car from Tokyo). They will also be taking a short holiday at this time (5-10 Aug).

We worship a holy God – He is set apart and unlike no other in His majesty, power, beauty and goodness. Please complete your financial offering and take time to reflect on God’s holiness during the first verse and chorus, then join in singing from the second verse.

Today’s passage talks about sanctification – what is it? Watch this video to find out!

Bible Reading

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 New International Version (NIV)

Living to Please God

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister.[b] The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
