Online service, 6th September

Welcome to our CP10 service online

Good morning and welcome to our Sunday service! Thanks for joining us today as we gather online as a community of believers who seek to know our Saviour, Jesus better and to love others more deeply. We hope you enjoy today’s online service. Please contact our Pastor Chadd Hafer (chaddhafercp10@gmail.com) if you have any prayer requests or feedback from the online service.

Songs of worship

Have you thought about the name ‘Jesus’? It is said to be more correctly translated to ‘Joshua’, which means “God is Salvation” or “God Saves”. So to believe in Jesus’ name means to believe that God actively cares about and actively goes about rescuing lost souls. And that has been God’s plan from the beginning, to bring us into a relationship with Him, and for that, He is worthy of all of our Praises.

The next song has the secondary title of the Creed, which is a statement of faith. If you don’t already know the Apostles creed or the Nicene creed by heart, singing the Creed is a great way to learn the lyrics and reaffirm your beliefs.

Note: Please stop at 4:25

Happy Fathers’ Day!

Thanks to all our biological and spiritual fathers and grandfathers who have cared for us and guided us!

September Questions series

This month’s series is based on four questions from Rebecca McLaughlin’s book Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions For The World’s Largest Religion’. (Christianity Today’s ‘Book of the Year’ and The Gospel Coalition’s ‘Apologetics and Evangelism Book of the Year’).  The two main goals of this series are:

  1. To help Christians gain confidence in and understanding of our faith.
  2. To learn how to respond to some important questions that sceptics and seekers may ask us about our Christian faith. You may want to consider who you could invite to join us during this series, or check it out online, in their own time.

In today’s sermon, Pastor Chadd will be answering the question: ‘Are the Christian Scriptures reliable, rational and relevant?’ (2 Timothy 3:10 – 4:5)

Wednesday Evening Q&A/Discussion

There will be Zoom Q&A and discussion sessions on the Wednesday following each of these Sunday sermons at 7:30pm. You can join the meeting on Wednesday by clicking here.

Special Item

Today we’d like to celebrate Father’s day by doing something fun together but it’s a surprise – let’s see what it is!

Congregational prayer

Thank God for all our biological and spiritual fathers and grandfathers who have cared for us and guided us.

Pray that God will help us gain greater understanding of our faith during this month’s ‘Questions’ series. Also pray that God will use this series to help us answer questions that seekers may have about our faith (1 Peter 3:15).

Pray for Kian Holik, serving Post graduate International students at Macquarie University.

  • Praise God that some of the Indonesian Christian Community have finally been able to meet face to face (albeit <20 people). They were able to hold a mini celebration of Indonesian independence and four new students came.
  • Pray for support for a returning PhD student to East Asia who had recently become a Christian.
  • Pray for care for Kian’s dad who has been bedridden for over a year due to a stroke. His usual carer has had to return to her family for a funeral.

Offertory

Financial giving towards gospel work is a way we Christians worship God in response to His generosity to us.  This act of worship reminds us of our dependence on Him to supply all our needs, including paying for the church development project.

Let us give with thankful hearts as we remember all that God has done for us.

Bible Reading

Today’s Bible reading is from 2 Timothy 3:10 – 4:5

A Final Charge to Timothy

10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Sermon

Song of Response

The Bible is God’s Word directly to us and the Hope of Salvation that Jesus brings is timeless.

Reflection

Now is a chance to split into breakout rooms to discuss and reflect on the sermon in smaller groups.
