Online service, 23rd August

Welcome to our CP10 service online

Good morning and welcome to our Sunday service. It’s great to be able to gather online as a community of believers who seek to know our Saviour Jesus better and to love others more deeply. We hope you enjoy today’s online service, whether you are meeting with others or worshipping on your own at home. Please contact our Pastor, Chadd Hafer (chaddhafercp10@gmail.com) if you have any prayer requests or feedback from the online service.

Songs of worship

This is a song of praise to our Lord Jesus, who is matchless and eternal. In his dying for us, he showed us he is the Lord of Love. In his resurrection, he showed us he is Lord of life. And whilst we wait for his return, we know He is the Lord of time (this is what potentate means). The act of crowning is an acknowledgement and recognition of a ruler. As we sing this song, will you ‘crown’ him as He should be?

Our next song is a new song for us – ‘Christ our Hope in Life and Death’. It will be sung next week as part of a Global Hymn Sing event – where churches around the world will come together as one people to sing praises to God. It is a modern hymn that expresses the comfort and assurance that flows from trusting in Christ, he who has conquered death and guaranteed our future by his resurrection.

Mission spot

This month’s mission spot is themed “Adults only?!”. Thanks to Derek and Jen’s home group for preparing this. Let’s take a minute to pray before watching the video:

Thank you, God, for your love of children. Please God show us how to love children as you do. May you move and empower us to make Jesus’ love known to the children in our families, church, communities and around the world

Congregational prayer

Prayer is a wonderful gift, allowing us to freely speak with God. Today will be praying for:

  • God’s mercy upon our world as we face the second wave of Covid. Pray especially for people in Victoria, as well as the USA, Brazil, India and South Africa. Pray also for the unity of the Australian people, and their compliance with the government’s guidelines.
  • Pray for our church leaders’ wisdom as they work out the way to continue to grow God’s church throughout Covid.
  • Thank God for that we are able to start the building project at Croydon Park. Thank him for the smooth preparation of the site, and pray for the project as they commence work.
  • Pray for the upcoming AGM and deacon elections. Pray that God will lead us to elect godly and wise deacons to oversee the church.
  • Continue to pray for the church’s finances. Thank God that he has provided graciously for us and commit this year to God’s grace. Ask that we as a church will have the faith and generosity to give what is required for 2020-21.

Bible Reading

Today’s bible reading is 2 Thessalonians 3:6 – 18. Following this, we will hear from Desmond who will give us today’s talk.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 – 18

Warning Against Idleness

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

14 Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed. 15 Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.

Final Greetings

16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Sermon

Song of Response

Our final song encourages and challenges us as Christians to practically live out Christ’s love to those around us. Let’s sing together ‘Brother Let Me Be Your Servant’

Thank you for joining our service today. We look forward to seeing you next week as Dr. Arthur Teng takes us through the final part in our Thessalonians series. As a reminder, please be encouraged to contact Pastor Chadd if you have any prayer requests, feedback from today’s online service or would just like to have a chat.
