  • Ladies Fellowship: The ladies are meeting up for the third and final time this year. Join us for a time of reflection, discussion and fellowship as we tackle the topic of CONTENTMENT. Date:Sunday, September 18; Time:10:30am – 12 noon; Place: 37 Albyn Road, Strathfield. (home of Alice Cheng). For more information, feel free to get in touch with Lydia Tan, Rachel Law, Michelle Tat or Jocelyn Lin.

  • The famous Westminster Shorter Catechism says: ‘The sacrament of baptism is a washing with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, which is a sign and seal that we are joined to Christ, that we receive the benefits of the covenant of grace, and that we are engaged to be the Lord’s.’ It’s an outward sign of an inward reality.  Do you have that inward reality? Then, you have the opportunity to publically declare it in November. Please speak to one of the pastors.  A preparation group will commence in October.

  • Diaconate Announcement: Notice is hereby given to all members of the church that the Annual General Meeting will be held at 12:30pm on Sunday, September 25, at the WSCCC Strathfield Chapel. During this meeting, election of deacons for the next term will be held. The AGM reports, agenda, and deacon candidate profiles are available from the ushers (one copy per family please). If you prefer to receive the 2016 AGM reports by email, please contact the church administrator (Gigi) by email (wsccc@optusnet.com.au). Please also contact the deacons of your congregation for the Proxy Form for the election of deacons if you cannot come to the AGM.

Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10 NIV) At times the Apostle Paul writes some difficult things to understand but those are not the things that worry me. The things that worry me are those I do understand and find difficult to apply. The verse above is one of them. Paul writes that we’re to be devoted to one another in love. The way he says we’re to do this is by honouring one another above ourselves. By looking at the verse closely you can see this is more than just showing humility. In fact, humility can often be feigned. It can be an act. Example, you say; “Oh, I’m not really that smart.” when you got an TER / ATAR of 95% or above without the other person knowing. That’s false humility! The humility required here on the other hand is other person centred. It’s giving credit to them by honouring them rather than dishonouring yourself, truthfully or not. It means to put any selfishness aside and actively ‘hold in respect’ or ‘praise’ the other person for their godly character or good works. To be honest my sinful-self doesn’t find this easy to do. Thank God for his Spirit who lives within me!
