Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42 NIV)

These words were spoken to Jesus on the cross by one of the criminals crucified next to him. And when you look more closely at them you begin to see the oddness of his request. Here is Jesus beaten, bloody, and bruised hanging naked with iron nails through his hands and feet. Even his head is dripping with blood from the crown of thorns that has been impaled upon it. Jesus is a helpless, wretched mess. A man in agony facing certain death yet he says to him; “when you come into your kingdom“. Kingdom? For Jesus to have a kingdom means he must be a king! But what on earth does this criminal see in this dying frail figure of a man to call him a king and then even risk his soul upon it? Was it the way Jesus bore the insults? Was it the way he forgave his executioners? We’re not sure but to look at Jesus at that moment and see a king we can only conclude God must have opened his eyes. Therefore, do not be ashamed to present Jesus to others, even him crucified, as God can open anyone’s eyes to see his true kingly nature and trust him!
