Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 NIV)

You are constantly involved in investments, and I’m not referring to your compulsory superannuation. You choose where to spend your money, time and energy, and with whom and on what. And the truth is physical investments make up a large portion of the above. Physical investments seem to attract our attention more than spiritual investments. Why is that? It’s because physical investments often instantly gratify us, they are more tangible, and carry obvious benefits too. Spiritual investments on the other hand have little immediate returns, don’t gratify us as much, are intangible, and don’t carry as obvious benefits. All in all they seem more risky to us. Why would you invest in spiritual (heavenly) stock when you can invest in these instant, pleasurable, fulfilling, physical (earthly) stocks? The truth is because spiritual (heavenly) investments please God, their returns are far superior, and of course everlasting. So how do you know if you’re doing this? Well, the above verse is the litmus test. Consider your heart, what you love, and this points the way to your treasures, what you consider most valuable. It’s a good test, isn’t it?
