Bulletin Announcements – 25 January 2014

  • No Sunday school class today. Please make sure that your children are under your care during the service. Term 1 2015 will start 1 February 2015 for Sunday school and 3 February 2015 for Play Group.
  • This February we will have special series thinking about the topic of life and asking some of the big questions that many of us will consider at some point in our lives. Sam Chan will be speaking and this will be a great opportunity to invite your friends and family.
  • From February, the Wednesday nights church prayer meeting (8:00pm) will be led by the pastors and various deacons on roster. There will be some changes in the format: first 15-20 minutes will be led by the chairperson on Bible sharing or introducing selected church ministry (or sharing by invited guest), then followed by prayer for the sharing/the church ministry mentioned. This session will be carried out in both Chinese and English. For the following 30-40 minutes, participants will be divided into smaller groups according to language and pray for various church ministries and needs. We encourage brothers and sisters to join this church prayer meeting and to support church ministries by prayers.
  • If you wish to support the church electronically, you can donate to these church accounts: WSCCC General Offertory, BSB 082 080, Acc 48 243 6244; WSCCC MTEC Missionary Giving, BSB 082 080, Acc 52 856 0495. Please make sure that you reference/detail your donation as “donation” or “faith promise giving” or whatever else is appropriate. If you wish to set up a regular direct transfer, please set it up as direct transfer rather than direct debit.

Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26 NIV)

The young David can hear the noise of war as he approaches the frontline. He arrives and immediately smells fear in the air. The faces of the Israelite soldiers are sunken. Why? Because before them on the other side of the battlefield stands Goliath; an over nine feet tall hardened warrior hungry for Israelite blood. He shouts his usual defiance against God but all the Israelite soldiers can do is tremble. But not David. David becomes annoyed and frustrated, even angry that nothing is being done. He wants to get in the fight! Israel is being disgraced and so God’s name is being dishonoured. God’s power and authority is being openly challenged. So David becomes jealous for God, like a husband for his wife’s honour, he can’t allow this insult to continue anymore! What deep and affectionate love he must have for God to stand up to this giant? And shouldn’t we have the same love for our Lord Jesus?
