Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV)

Isn’t it just delightful to have a God who sings over you! A Mighty Warrior who delights to perform a song over the ones he saves! At first it might sound like a paradox. Just picture it for a second; a manly muscly fighter like one of those you find in a boxing ring, in one hand holding a microphone and belting out a song while with the other he reaches out to you in delight. A cross between Michael Bublé and a young Mohammed Ali if you will. I might be stretching it a little you say or maybe you’d just prefer to roll your eyes up at me. Yet, before you delete this picture out of your mind consider King David the handsome Mighty Warrior leaping, dancing, and undoubtedly singing before the LORD’s ark as it was brought into Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Sometimes our conservatively reserved Christian minds need a bit of a jolt and maybe even to picture Jesus our Mighty Warrior King unashamedly rejoicing over us with singing? Just a biblical thought after all.
