Ariel writes – a weekly Scriptural devotion:

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. (Song of Solomon 8:6 NIV)

This verse is a passionate expression of what love is.; not only because of the metaphors expressed but also because it is found in the very sensual book Song of Solomon. This book, a poem, is a very emotionally and physically frank discussion about love between a married couple. In the verse above, found in the final chapter of the book, we see love described as a seal, as strong as death, unyielding as the grave, and burning like a mighty blazing flame. The wife is wanting to know that she will be loved exclusively, passionately, and mightily by her husband. In effect she is wanting to be assured of his devotion to her; and such a strong love is the assurance that she needs. It is no different in our relationship with God. We too need the assurance of such a strong love; and isn’t it wonderful to know that God gives it to us exclusively, passionately, and mightily in Jesus?!
