Online service, 5th July

Welcome to our CP10 service online

We’re glad that you’ve joined our service today! Please contact our Pastor, Chadd Hafer, if you have any prayer requests or feedback from our online service, or leave a comment at the end of our service.

Songs of worship

Through troubled times Lord, even through these extraordinary times, we can rely on God to Guide us through the struggles and metaphorical dangerous lands. God is our mighty strength and our deliverer, and is worthy of our praises!

Praise be to God, the 3 in 1, who is our daily bread, our living water, our ruler and Sovereign.

Announcements

Living for Christ’s return – 1 & 2 Thessalonians

Today we begin a new sermon series in 1 & 2 Thessalonians.  This series has been arranged thematically and will move back and forth between these two letters from the Apostle Paul. Today Pastor Chadd will be speaking (primarily) from 2 Thessalonians 1 about the importance of living a life of continuous praise and worship.

Evangelistic Service next week – What is a Christian?

We encourage you to invite a friend, colleague or family member to attend the service next week. Look out for the service email next week with more details!

St Paul’s Pantry

Please contact Pastor Chadd, Yen, Parisa or Margaret for information about how you can continue to support this valuable ministry. Thank you.

The Church Development Project will be resuming!

The CP phase of the CDP is still on the plan, as we need it for our ministry of the gospel for future generations, and for the increasing special needs of our congregations. With Covid restrictions at the moment, this would be a great time to start the building project, and that is what we are aiming for.

We are thankful for God’s provision for us, and the generosity of church members. Of our budget of $1.4m for the CP project, we have raised about $1.2m (through donations and members’ interest-free loans). By reducing that shortfall to about $200k means that we may be in a position to start the project! Please pray for the Diaconate who will make a formal decision whether to sign the contract with the buildings on Jul 17.

We need your help!

As we prepare for the building project to commence, we need to have the Croydon Park church to be cleared of everything by Aug 16 (6 weeks)! Can you help store any items temporarily? Even if just a stack of chairs, or a few foldable tables will help. We will also need help for a working bee in about 4 weeks – details to come. Please see Des, Anthony or Chadd if you can help.

Meeting arrangements for future CP10 services

Due to Covid restrictions, and the building project, it will be some time before we will be meeting all together again at Croydon Park. The leaders are discussing various options for how we can do church best during the upcoming year. There is no perfect arrangement, but we encourage everyone to continue to worship and fellowship, in every circumstance, in a spirit of patient love and unity. We’ll update everyone as we work out the arrangements.

Faith Promise Giving

We give thanks to God for his abundant provisions for our missionaries in the current financial year. We are now launching the Faith Promise Giving 2020/21 to support our missionaries. The details can be found in the Faith  Promise Giving 2020/21 Form. If you are already giving to support our missionaries, please just continue to do so. If you have not partnered in this way, please prayerfully consider how God will enable you to do so, even $5 per week is a good start.

Congregational prayer

Please pray that God will guide our church leaders and congregations as we begin to consider what our corporate life will look like as COVID restrictions begin to ease. We also keep Victorians and the rest of the world in our prayers as numbers of COVID cases continue to grow again there.

Offertory

Financial giving towards gospel work is a way we Christians worship God in response to the grace we’ve received from Him, to whom all praises, glory and honour are due. If you haven’t yet set up a regular electronic giving, we invite you now to prayerfully consider your response to this call to worship. Below are our weekly budget to support various ministries and details to direct your offerings.

Thessalonians overview

As we begin our 1 & 2 Thessalonians series, the Bible Project has a great video introducing the books. (Note: please just watch the first 3:58 of the video)

Bible reading & sermon

2 Thessalonians 1:1-12 (audio)

Paul, Silas[a] and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters,[b] and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.[c]

Response and reflection

May we have a life of continuous thanks to God, praise, and most importantly, prayer, through Jesus, who is friend and comforter.
