Online service, 21st June

Welcome to our CP10 service online

We’re glad that you’ve joined our service today! Please contact our Pastor, Chadd Hafer (chaddhafercp10@gmail.com), if you have any prayer requests or feedback from our online service, or leave a comment at the end of our service.

Songs of worship

Our opening song takes its lyrics from The Apostles’ Creed – a statement that is centred around the core beliefs of the Christian faith. It is a public profession of faith in historic Christianity and has unified the Church for many centuries. As we sing together in our “virtual but corporate” mode this morning, give thanks for the unity we share in the Lord Jesus.

As followers of Jesus we are called to share the good news of Him, regardless of where in the world we are. Why? Because, as Peter answered when asked why he persisted on telling people about Jesus, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

2020 Missions Month

Today we continue our annual June Missions Month. This year’s theme is: ‘Who Is My Neighbour?’ The goals are to proclaim the gospel to all people; and to challenge Christ followers to become better equipped and informed, and more actively involved in Christ’s Great Commission. Please consider who you might invite to join one of our online services during this month.

St Paul’s Pantry:

Each week at CP@10, we’re encouraged to serve the many people in our local community who are under severe hardship by giving items to St Paul’s Pantry ministry. Here is a heart-warming story from the team at St Paul’s Pantry this week:

We had a young lady come today seeking help, food and just someone to help her – she had been fobbed off by people in different agencies, told how to live her life. She just needed some food and someone to care about her. It was heartbreaking to see her cry and not be able to give her a hug. We packed her a bag of food and toiletries to assist her and also contacted local councils to assist.

Please contact Pastor Chadd, Yen, Parisa or Margaret for information about how you can continue to support this valuable ministry. Thank you.

Diaconate Newsletter

The latest Diaconate Newsletter has been published, with reflections on Covid on church life, the latest news about plans and dates for bringing ministries back to our church buildings, new hygiene requirements, the future of the building project, finance updates and prayer points. Please take the time to read through these important updates.

Post-Covid Reintegration Plan

As Covid restrictions are lifted in NSW, we look forward to a return of various ministries back to our church buildings. Many ministries can return to church during the next 6 weeks, but with new hygiene requirements. These are detailed in the latest Post-Covid Reintegration Plan. Unfortunately the continued requirement for 4sqm between people means that we cannot resume on-site Sunday services yet. However, perhaps you can enjoy fellowship with each other by sharing our online services in worship together in each others’ homes?

Church Deveolpment Project

The Church Development Project will be resuming! There remains $300,000 to reach full budget for the project (see details in the Diaconate Newsletter). If members can make a special effort to give more during the next 2 months, then we will reach the starting point for building to commence at Croydon Park. Our bi-monthly special CDP offering will be collected next Sunday (June 28), but we also ask if members might consider also contributing interest-free loans to the church, which help cashflow (please speak to a deacon about details).

Faith Promise Giving

We give thanks to God for his abundant provisions for our missionaries in the current financial year. We are now launching the Faith Promise Giving 2020/21 to support our missionaries. The details can be found in the Faith  Promise Giving 2020/21 Form. If you are already giving to support our missionaries, please just continue to do so. If you have not partnered in this way, please prayerfully consider how God will enable you to do so, even $5 per week is a good start. Please continue to pray that our God will meet the physical and spiritual needs to keep our missionaries on the mission field.

Congregational prayer

Today Phil and Irene Nicholson will be sharing with us and introducing us to one of their ‘neighbours’.

Please do not take photos of the screen, download the video or post the video online. This is for security reasons for Phil’s colleagues as they are in a closed country. Thank you.

After the videos, you may want to divide into breakout rooms to pray in smaller groups for the prayer points below or you may just have someone pray for them to close in prayer.

Pray for Phil and Irene Nicholson, serving as missionaries in Taiwan and beyond:

  • Pray for Phil’s ministry with the Langham team especially during these times of lack of travel – that those who have been trained in how to preach the Bible would use what they have learned well, as local lay leaders are having to preach more. Pray for wisdom to know what they can and can’t do online as many whom they train come from rural areas, low-income areas and don’t have the technology to do everything online.
  • Pray for Phil’s ministry to students and others in Taiwan. Praise God that even though he can’t travel, he is able to have the opportunity to be involved in training these people.

Pray for Jacqui Ng, serving God in Singapore.

  • Pray for Jacqui to feel encouraged by her church family as she isn’t able to physically meet up with people.

Pray for those who are facing hardship due to circumstances changing in our current economic climate. Pray for people such as the young lady who visited St Paul’s pantry this week – pray for their physical and mental wellbeing. Pray that our community would be gentle and gracious to those less fortunate. Pray for single parents around the world who are in a tough situation – that they would seek Jesus and that someone show God’s love and care to them.

Pray for the Diaconate – for God’s wisdom to continue to be with them as they make hard decisions on behalf of the church.

Meet Wayne

Today we’ll be meeting the newest member of our pastoral team, Wayne Mok. Pastor Wayne will be speaking to us from Matthew 9:35 – 10:4, “The harvest is plentiful but laborers are few.”

Bible reading & sermon

Our Bible passage today is taken from the Gospel of Matthew (9:35-10:4)

Matthew 9:35-10:4 (audio)

The Workers Are Few

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Response and reflection

As we sing our song of response, consider where God has placed you in His world to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God, and ask Him to empower you to be Christ’s light that many others may hear and respond to the Gospel.
