Online service, 14th June

Welcome to our CP10 service online

Whether you’re a regular or a guest, we’re glad you’ve joined our service today. CroydonPark@10 is a congregation that of the wider West Sydney Chinese Christian Church (WSCCC) – for more information about our church, please explore our website.

Songs of worship

For June Missions Month, let’s remind each other that we are not only citizens of this world, but we have another home to look forward to, and “we must tell of his salvation while we wait, for the day when Jesus comes will be too late” as the next song exhorts.

This next song is one of very few that speaks of suffering and hardship, and despite that, it reminds us that God is the one who is in control and is worthy of our praise and worship.

Announcements

2020 Missions Month

Today we continue our annual June Missions Month. This year’s theme is: ‘Who Is My Neighbour?’ The goals are to proclaim the gospel to all people; and to challenge Christ followers to become better equipped and informed, and more actively involved in Christ’s Great Commission. Please consider who you might invite to join one of our online services during this month.

St Paul’s Pantry:

As our world continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic, there are many people in our local community who are being placed under severe hardship. Please contact Pastor Chadd, Yen, Parisa or Margaret for information about how you can continue to support this valuable ministry. Thank you.

Covid-19 update

We thank the Lord that many aspects of life in Australia are resuming normal activity. However, social distancing measures remain in place which restrict us to no more than 30 people at the Croydon Park hall/chapel. Therefore our Sunday services will not resume on site yet, but continue on-line for the foreseeable future. You can follow the latest diaconate updates here.

Mission spot

Last week, we heard from our missionaries serving off-shore. This week, we hear from those serving in Australia. Different locations, same mission of proclaiming the good news of Jesus: the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. As you watch the video, ask yourself: is it your mission too? Has your neighbour heard this good news?

Congregational prayer

As followers of Jesus, we have the awesome privilege to talk directly to our Heavenly Father anytime, all the time. Let’s take a few minutes now to praise and thank God – the Giver of all good gifts that we receive daily; to ask His forgiveness for our failure to love Him with all our hearts, with all our minds and with all our strengths and to love our neighbours as ourselves and ask Him to transform us through the renewal of our minds; and to bring before Him our needs.

If you have breakout rooms, you may want to divide into different groups to pray in smaller groups. At the end, perhaps the person who is leading or hosting the service can close in prayer before you move on to singing. If you are attending this service with your family and friends, take the time to pray together.

  • Pray that God’s people may have the wisdom to combine truth and grace as we share the good news about Jesus in these difficult times.
  • Pray that individuals who experience severe hardship due to COVID-19 may receive help, comfort and assurance they need.

Offertory

Financial giving towards gospel work is a way we Christians worship God in response to the grace we’ve received from Him, to whom all praises, glory and honour are due. If you haven’t yet set up a regular electronic giving, we invite you now to prayerfully consider your response to this call to worship. Below are our weekly budget to support various ministries and details to direct your offerings.

  • General fund: ($22,540)
  • Mission fund: ($4,722)
  • Building fund: (remaining target to raise $372,500)

The Perrett family’s new neighbourhood

As you’ve heard in the earlier video, the Perrett family moved to the Gold Coast earlier this year to serve in a university student ministry. In the next video, they introduce us to the people they’ve met in their new neighbourhood.

Bible reading & Sermon

Our Bible passage today is taken from the Gospel of Matthew (5:1-16), a section known as the Beautitudes part of Jesus’ sermon on the mount where Jesus named 10 groups of people and their blessedness. Let’s read this passage together before Lorenz brings us the message of Mission in an Age of Outrage.

Matthew 5:1-16 (audio)

Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Response and reflection

Let’s sing our song of response as a reminder to follow the attitudes that Jesus teaches his disciples and us, and bring light even to the deepest, darkest places on earth and in men’s hearts.

A word of encouragement

Hi Everyone,

I’m glad that you’ve joined our service today! I hope that you are all keeping physically, mentally, and spiritually well at this time. While government restrictions are beginning to ease, safe distancing requirements would still only allow about 30 people to meet together in our CP10 hall. Therefore, our church leaders believe that it’s best to keep doing our Sunday services online for now. However, let me encourage you to take advantage of the eased restrictions by getting outside and enjoying God’s creation.

Please also consider how you might safely engage in some face to face time with other CP10 brothers and sisters (not to mention your other friends and neighbours). Finally, make sure that you keep up your spiritual disciplines such as regularly meeting with God, and upholding one another in prayer. Please contact me if you have any prayer requests or feedback from our online service.

 Yours in Christ, Chadd
