5 questions about SHUM

What is SHUM?

Running since 2000, Surry Hills Urban Mission (SHUM), is an local mission created to share the Gospel with the people of Surry Hills and Central Station; particularly those people living on the streets or disadvantaged.

What does it involve?

Each month, a team of Christians commits to serving in SHUM every Tuesday night throughout the month and one Sunday morning.

What does a typical Tuesday night look like at SHUM?

Why should I be involved?

  • Our own city of Sydney needs missionaries! Reach the unreached people of Sydney, in our own backyard.
  • Through participating in SHUM, become more educated and prepared to evangelise more readily in their own lives, with friends and family.

How can I get involved?

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven – Matthew 5:14-16
