The word ‘deacon’ means ‘servant’. The deacons of West Sydney Chinese Christian Church are the overseers of the whole church, working closely with the pastoral team. Each has different gifts and responsibilities, but all have grassroots involvement within their home congregations.
Deacons of the English congregations
Sam is a double doctor. He completed his medical training at Sydney University before heading to the USA to complete a PhD in theology. He is now the national communicator for City Bible Forum.
He regularly speaks on topics of life, faith, and Christianity, both locally and overseas—including the USA, Canada, Japan, and Peru. Last year he gave talks to groups from Macquarie Bank, Ernst and Young, PWC, KPMG, CBA, and Lendlease.
Sam is hopeless at taking out the garbage, boiling an egg, rugby, dancing, and karaoke—but he does know all the words to Cold Chisel’s Khe Sanh(or maybe just the chorus).
Don’t be fooled by his nerdy medico look. Desmond was a fierce rugby player in the 13Fs at Trinity Grammar School. These days Desmond is an anaesthetist and is married to Margaret, and his children are Daniel (10) and Sarah (7). Desmond graduated from Sydney Missionary and Bible College in 2006. His vision is for our church to reach out and bless our local community and world with God’s wonderful message of what he has done through Jesus.
