Surry Hills Urban Mission (SHUM)
In partnership with Chinese Presbyterian Church, Surry Hills, members of strathfield 9am take part in forming teams which outreach to the marginalised around Central Railway Station as part of the Surry Hills Urban Mission. Through giving out of food and engaging in conversation SHUM volunteers aim to demonstrate the love of Christ to people who are often ignored by mainstream society.
Breakaway Kids’ Camp
Many young adults at strathfield 9am take part as camp leaders at the Fitzroy Falls Breakway Kids’ Camps in January every year. Many of the kids at this camp come from very disadvantaged and difficult backgrounds, and this camp often represents the high point in their year. The week long camp aims to provide a fun environment where relationships are built and the gospel is shared so that lives are changed eternally.
Red Shield Appeal
The youth of WSCCC take part in volunteering with the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal. In doing so we recognise the ongoing valuable work of the Salvo’s in making a real difference in the lives of Australians in great need – and how such service stands as an overflow of Christ’s love to us.
Operation Christmas Child
Every year the families and youth of WSCCC get behind preparing shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts as part of the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project. This project aims to touch the lives of some of the poorest kids in the world with a useful gifts around Christmas, whilst also sharing about the true gift we celebrate at Christmas – Christ coming into the world.
